FAQ / What to Expect
Where are you located?
Do you travel?
Yes! Traveling and taking photos in different places gives me inspiration. I also think that if the location is relative to you, that you'll feel most comfortable in that setting.
Do you have a studio?
At this time I do not. The location of your session can take place outdoors (on-location), the comfort of your own home, a boutique hotel, or we can rent a local studio space (rates not covered in photo packages).
Where can I find more information on packages and pricing?
Simply shoot me an email telling me what type of session you’re interested in and I’ll send you detailed session information and a complete list of package options. I offer at least three different Collections (packages) for each session type and plenty of A La Carte options.
How far out do you book?
For portrait sessions I typically like to book at least 1-2 weeks in advance, and weddings at least 4 months in advance.
However, sometimes dates become available at the last minute and I may be looking to fill an opening. If you have a last-minute photography need, don’t be shy in dropping me an email!
Why do I need to book in advance?
It gives ample time for us to communicate all details thoroughly, carefully plan and style your session to be perfectly tailored to you, while also giving you the opportunity to spread out payments and pay off your investment before the session date if needed.
How do I book a session?
We can either schedule a pre-session consultation or communicate everything via email or phone. Once you’ve decided on a package, we’ve discussed availability and decided on a date, I’ll email you the digital contract + invoice and we'll get you on the books!
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, for wedding and most photo sessions I require a non-refundable deposit totaling 30% of the total price of the photography services at the time of booking. Mini Sessions are typically paid in full at the time of booking.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! I want you to truly get the most out of your photoshoot experience and the perfect keepsakes to match it. I would be happy to help you pre-plan your finances so that you can get exactly what you want. We can plan your payments so that by the time you finish your session and are ready to order products, you will have already paid off your investment. Another great benefit of booking early.
What types of payment methods do you accept?
Cash, check, or Venmo are preferred, but you may also make payments via PayPal or card (directly through your invoice).
How will I receive my photos after our session?
Depends on what your selected photo package includes.
Online Gallery: I’ll sort all of your finished images into an online gallery for digital download. We can make it password-protected or we can make it public to easily share the link with anyone you’d like to show your photographs off to.
Print Products: One of the best features of the gallery is that it is connected directly to the professional print lab that I utilize. This gives you the ability to order prints of your favorite images from the gallery and have them shipped directly to your door. The prints are beautiful and the prices are great, so a lot of my clients enjoy taking advantage of this feature.
Hard Copy: Many of my packages will also include a hard copy of the images on a flash drive. The USB will include the same final images from your online gallery in high-resolution along with the print release document. Along with any print products ordered, you'll receive your flash drive all packaged and delivered in a personalized keepsake box, carefully assembled with lots of love, and sometimes cute goodies.
What is a print release? What can I do with the photos I receive?
A print release is a document giving you permission to use the images for personal use. Want to order prints? Create albums? Share with your friends? Go for it!
What you will not be able to do is sell them for money, license them for commercial use or give permission to anyone else to do these things. I (Kirstie Dunston Photography) will maintain the ownership copyrights to the images.
Do you offer prints + specialty products?
Yes! All of my client galleries are connected directly to the professional print lab that I’ve chosen to utilize. This gives you the ability to order prints of your favorite images from the gallery and have them shipped directly to your door!
Not everything I offer is listed on the gallery website. If you have special requests of print sizes or specialty items not listed please let me know. I’ll gladly look into it for you and provide a quote.
I’m also happy to help out with any announcements and invitations you may need designed and ordered as well!
Do you edit or retouch your photos?
I do and I really enjoy this process. Each image is carefully edited and retouched to reflect my brand and style, as well as the mood of the image/session.
Editing: (crop, color-correction, adjustments for exposure) is guaranteed on all images. Retouching (removing blemishes, decreasing severity of under-eye circles, removing distracting elements from the background) is applied on most images but not guaranteed. It is, however, done in greater detail on my boudoir + bridal sessions and is included in the pricing of those photography collections.
Do you sell unedited / raw images?
No I do not. In my opinion, any artist who appreciates and values their own work would not want to distribute unfinished, insufficient artwork. Your finalized photographs are carefully selected and polished to guarantee that I am offering you my absolute best.
What should I wear to my session?
Depending on what type of session you're booking, I'm more than happy to send you wardrobe ideas + suggestions and help you work out your outfit choices.
I first suggest staying true to you! I recommend not wearing anything too distracting, but some texture or small embellishments are nice and look great on camera.
When photographing a family or couple, I suggest coordinating (but not matching) outfits. Using similar color palettes or coordinating colors works best. It’s also a good idea to bring a backup outfit or two just in case of messes, differences in opinions, etc.
What about hair and makeup? Is that an available service?
Yes, if not already included in the package price, hair + makeup services can be provided upon request. I have a small team of stylists with different rates and availabilities, so if you are interested in these services let me know and I can get you a quote!
What should we bring to our session?
Anything and everything you think you may need! For sessions with adults: bring a change of outfits, layers, hats, accessories, chapstick/lipstick and a hairbrush. For children: think snacks, diapers, wipes and tissues, rewards, a blanket or two, extra milk, and a change of clothes. This is a time to encourage kids to be themselves to allow me to capture them in the moment.
What if it rains?
Since I work mostly on-location and weather is unpredictable, it is an obvious reality that the session could get rained out. So to cover all our bases, when we schedule and book your session date we can also schedule a “rain date.” This is our back-up day that everyone is also available to shoot in case we’re rained out or have to reschedule for any other reason.
What is your turnaround time?
For most sessions, the turnaround time for receiving finalized digital files via online gallery is typically 2-3 weeks. Simple print orders arrive within 2-3 days, while specialty items and design products may vary in turnaround time depending on complexity of project, etc.
